Grassroots Pet Wellness focuses on health creation. This is a consulting/coaching service which focuses on nutritional management and lifestyle changes to promote longevity for your pet.
At this time I am only available for online and phone consultations.
Yes! I am a veterinarian. I am licensed to practice in the state of Texas and I graduated from the University of Minnesota Collage of Veterinary Medicine in 2017.
No! Licensing laws prohibit me from prescribing medications unless you are in the state of Texas and I have seen your animal in person. I can however, suggest medications when appropriate (that you can talk to your vet about) as well as supplements and nutraceuticals that may benefit your dog's health.
One of the reasons I started Grassroots Pet Wellness is because I was tired of having short appointment slots where I was pressured to take fast histories and then prescribe a bunch of medications. It felt like sick care and I wanted to help owners create wellness for their pets. Consulting allows me to reach a broader client base then those that I see just in person and we are able to take the time to really focus on management skills that can truly promote health for your pet. Because we are not having an in person appointment and I am not treating your pet in any capacity, I cannot call what I do veterinary care and my goal is not to replace your veterinarian. I am here to help you create wellness for your pets.
My appointments generally run 30-90 minutes and we will cover all aspects of your dog's healthcare. This includes an in depth discussion of what they are being fed, health goals that you may have for them, current health concerns, exercise, enrichment activities etc. You will be asked to fill out an in depth questionnaire before we talk so we can spend the time focusing on solutions and come up with a plan that fits your life.
We can cover many things! Topics include how to best create wellness and longevity, homemade diets, raw diets, fasting for health, detoxification, how to communicate better with your current veterinarian, what health conditions mean for the life of your pet, appropriate exercise, enrichment activities, vaccines, pros and cons of certain medications, more natural/holistic approaches to care and much more.
My goal is not to replace your current vet. I want to work along side you and your vet as a part of your healthcare team. While I can look at lab work and give my thoughts on a pet's condition, I will not change your pet's medications, write prescriptions, adjust treatment plans.
I will provide you with information so you can make the best calls for your dog WITH the advice from your current veterinarian.
My approach to healthcare is a lot different than most conventionally trained veterinarians. I aim to get to the root of the issues that your dog is having. I think there is a place for pharmaceuticals, but I realize they are mostly symptom management and are not the way back to true, lasting health, so that is not my focus though there may be times when I suggest supplements or even medications that may be beneficial to where your dog is at in this moment. My goal though is to get dogs off of "life long" medications and support their immune function so that we can minimize the need for conventional veterinary intervention.
If I were to label myself I would say that I am a holistic vet. Like you, I am always learning and adjusting and that includes how I practice.
Currently, I hold a certification in Veterinary Natural Nutrition from the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies.
I am looking forward to taking courses for certification in Integrative Therapeutic Nutrition and Western Herbal Medicine in 2024-2025.
